Valorizing pyrolysis gases back to monomers

Francesca Martelli is an early stage researcher for C-PlaNeT, working on ESR 12 project ‘Valorizing pyrolysis gases back to monomers’, in the Laboratory for Petrochemical Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She focusses on the development of olefin cross-methatesis catalysts for thermochemical recycling of polymeric products. The objective of her research is decoupling plastics from fossil resources.

She studied Industrial Chemistry at the Department of Industrial Chemistry “Toso Montanari”, Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, Italy. She obtained her BSc diploma in 2017 and her MSc diploma in 2020 summa cum laude. Her master thesis focused on the study of nanostructured Au-based catalysts applied to redox reactions in the field of green chemistry.

She is passionate about languages: besides her native language, Italian, she fluently communicates in English and French; furthermore, she speaks a little Spanish, German and Greek.
