Rita Kol
Solvent techniques for closed loop recycling of plastics

Rita Kol is an early stage researcher for C-Planet, working on ESR 09 profile “Solvent techniques for closed loop recycling of plastics”, in the Laboratory for Circular Process Engineering (LCPE) in the Department of Green Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University. She focuses on cleaning of plastic waste by solvent-based technologies. The objective of her research is to optimize chemical pre-treatments to remove contaminants from plastics before recycling.

She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, from Universidade de Lisboa – Instituto Superior Técnico in 2017. She also holds a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, from 2019, from Universidade de Lisboa - Instituto Superior Técnico, where she focused on Feedstock Recycling of Plastic Waste. Her motivation is to give her input to a more sustainable environment by contributing to the Circular Economy of plastics.

In her free time, she likes to do sports, specially swimming, cook, read and play the piano.
